Books
So, what is Micaela reading these days? Below is an ongoing (updated when I get the chance) list of books I've enjoyed. Emphasis is on enjoyed. There have been books I've started and given up on - but usually this is not the book's fault. Sometimes it just doesn't click.
My absolute favorite series this year has been the chronicles of Master Li and Number Ten Ox by Barry Hughart. The first book, Bridge of Birds, was absolutely wonderful. The second and third books are out of print, but I found a bookstore in Chicago that has reprinted them and bound all three together in a beautiful edition. Let me know if you want more info. To quote the cover of BoB, these books are stories of "an ancient China that never was." Truely wonderful reading.
During the summer, I read The Alienist by Caleb Carr. Another great book that I highly recommend. An eerie peek into New York City at the turn of the century.
I just finished The Long Walk by Slavomir Rawicz (as told to Ronald Downing). This is a true story and very moving, whether or not you believe every detail.
Appropriately, I'm now reading Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing
And as ever, I read the Harry Potter books as they come out.
