Stories and Other Writings by Mark E. Vande Kamp

Most of what I've written in the past few years involves athletics. Here's a story I wrote about running and friendship. It's called Hard Miles

I ran several triathlons in the 1990's. This is a rather long race report from the 1997 Wildflower 1/2 Ironman

This is a much shorter piece about why I ride my bike and run the roads. I thought about taping it and sending it to NPR's "All Things Considered", but they stopped accepting unsolicited submissions. The piece has a rather boring title -- Working Out as a Reason For Working Out

Since the spring of 1999, I've been riding with the Seattle International Randonneurs. I've written a few ride reports about my experiences on several of the brevets. Here they are:

1999
1999 SIR 400k

2000
How I Joined The IV League: A Nonlinear Narrative Of The 2000 SIR 400k

2001
Past the Barb On the Hook: SIR 2001 300k

Finally, this last story is about a night ride around Mount Rainier I did with Andy Fuller in the fall of 2000. I sent it to Dan Empfield, the founder of Quintana Roo bicycles, to see if he would like to publish it in his webzine, Slowtwitch. I originally titled it, The Owls Are Not What They Seem but it appeared under a more descriptive title in the webzine.
