Origins:
The Echon family name originated in the island of Luzon, in the Philippines. The Philippines is located in the southeastern area of Asia and in the far corners of the Pacific which borders these islands as well as the China Sea to the west. On Luzon, there is a province named Zambales. Among this province are various cities and towns with many dialects. One of which the Echon family have risen out of was Candelaria.
Candelaria, as well as many other cities and towns in that area were once home of many trading venues. Many centuries ago, this area was active in the port site of Subic Bay. Subic Bay lies on the southwestern side of Luzon. Here, various cultures, including peoples from China and other southeastern countries would exchange in cultures and goods.
A few centuries later, the Filipino culture at that time had newly been introduced to the European ways of life with the arrival of the Spaniards. The Spanish rule over the Philippines had gone on for a long while. During this time, the areas of Zambales were seperated into towns and cities with surnames according to the letters of the Alphabet. This was a way for the Spanish to catalog the peoples of the area. The purposes of this to my knowledge are not known, except to my understanding where they could keep track of them.
For instance, the town of Candelaria were primarily surnames that began with the letter 'E', and for the city of San Marcelino would be 'G'. This was obvious throughout. Members of the Echon family and relatives for the town of Candelaria consisted of the following: Eclevia, Ermitano, Ebalo, Esteban, Edquilang..and so on.
After the Spanish rule over the country, followed the Japanese influence. Soon after that for a few decades were colonialism of the United States of America. This colonialism granted many who were born during that time in the Philippines citizenship as well as many other opportunities. After the Philippines gained independance from the States and created the country of the Philippines, there were many opportunies for many families. One of which was the United States Navy. The Navy had put up a base in Subic Bay. There many members of the Echon family had become military officers.
Presently, we have come to know that the surname, Echon has a rich lineage that dates back from when the Spaniards came. The family history goes beyond that, and would be a wonderful story to know. Our name is of our own, and to see anyone with the last name would almost positively conclude that they are your brother or sister.
