Music 575 Seminar in Theory Autumn 1990 Mon 3:30-5:20 Music room 212 John Rahn NONHIERARCHY The members of the seminar will explore alternatives to hierarchical structures in music itself and in ancillary concerns such as in theories for its analysis, in models for its perception and the psychology of its cognition, in social settings for its creation and perpetuation, and in life in general as it interacts with music, for example, recent feminist theory. One common plane of consistency within the seminar will be the text by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, A Thousand Plateaus.
