Joe's Earthquake Experience

The following is an excerpt from an e-mail Joe wrote to a friend about what happened the day the earthquake struck:

... Everyone did fine on our side, with very little damage and no injuries. We got off VERY lucky!

Mom and Dad in Shelton are fine. Their phone got knocked off the hook, and Hien and I spent a very worrisome day trying to get ahold of them. Finally they realized it was their phone and not the entire netwok that was "down." We got through that evening and found that they were fine.

I went straight from my class to Ian's daycare. All the kids had piled under the tables, then the teachers evacuated them outside. I found them lined up against the back fence, excited and chattering like little monkeys! Only one child was visibly upset. Ian saw me and ran over and said, "Daddy, guess what?! There was a earthquake and I was SO brave!"

All's well, as I said. Ian is still asking hypothetical questions about it, like, "What if I go to daycare and the earthquake comes back and there's dinosaur?!!" So he's still processing and trying to figure it out...
