Academics

I am in my 5th year toward a Ph.D. in biocultural anthropology at the University of Washington; I completed my MA in biocultural anthropology in 2006. Concurrently, I am completing an MPH in epidemiology also at UW. I am particularly interested in the coevolution of humans and infectious disease from a population-based evolutionary theory standpoint. The tools to study these topics seem to lie primarily at the intersection of anthropology, epidemiology and demography.

Research

My MA thesis is entitled, "Mathmatical Models of Tuberculosis: Applications and Bases." My PhD committee is chaired by Steve Goodreau, and includes Patricia Kramer, Ira Longini and Noel Weiss.

Working with Noel Weiss and Lisa Manhart, my epidemiology MPH thesis explores the association of oral contraceptive use and post-menopausal endometrial cancer.

Currently, I am working at the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute, part of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, under M. Elizabth Halloran and Ira Longini on a TB modeling project.

Teaching Award
In 2007, I was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award by the University of Washington. To receive this award, I was nominated by anonymous students, faculty and alumni. Because the first round of nominations are sealed, and thus I can't thank you each personally, I'd like to publically thank each and every one of you. Please know that your support means very much to me, and that I greatly value the opportunities to work with you. Thanks for being FANTASTIC students, colleagues, mentors and friends. I couldn't have done it without every single one of you!
