Microsoft Entourage is almost exactly the same as Outlook Express. More detailed instructions for configuring Outlook Express for Mac can be found here. These instructions were written for Entourage version 10.1.0, and may or may not work for any earlier or later versions. These instructions are completely unsupported by C&C, but will probably work. I make no warranty stronger than that "probably".
1) Launch Entourage. Go to the Tools menu and click on Accounts to get the following window:
2) Click on New to get one of the following windows:
2a) If you get the Account Setup Assistant window, click on Configure account manually to get to step 2b:
2b) If you get the New Account windows, click on the Account type pulldown menu, choose IMAP, and click OK:
3) In the Edit Account window, configure your personal information and basic server options:
Option | Value |
---|---|
Account name | UW Deskmail, or some other descriptive name |
Name | Your own name |
E-mail address | your_netid@u.washington.edu |
Account ID | your_netid |
IMAP server | your_netid.deskmail.washington.edu |
SMTP server | smtp.washington.edu |
There's a mistake in the screenshot below: the box next to "Include this account..." should not be checked.
4) Click on Click here for advanced receiving options and make sure This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL) is checked, and that the IMAP port in the box is 993. Click on the box in the upper left to make this window go away once you're done.
5) Click on Click here for advanced sending options and make sure SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL) and SMTP server requires authentication are both checked. Also, make sure Use same settings as receiving mail server is checked. Click on the box in the upper left to make this window go away once you're done.
6) Click on the Options tab in the Edit Account window. Make sure that the setting for Root folder is "mail". If you are using the Email Delivery Manager to have new messages delivered directly to folders on the server, then you can check the Check for unread messages in subscribed folders, but make sure that only folders which actually receive new messages are subscribed to. If all your new mail gets delivered to your Inbox, or if you are subscribed to folders which don't receive new mail, make sure the Check for unread messages in subscribed folders option is NOT checked.
