The NESTOR Institute for Deep Sea Research (building at center of picture) is located in Pylos.

Pylos is the location of the NESTOR Institute for Deep Sea Research.  This laboratory is known for the study of high-energy neutrinos7.  To detect neutrinos, photosensors are placed in the very deep water (4 km deep) of the Ionian Sea southwest of Pylos.  Thus, the laboratory has experience deploying ocean moorings in deep water.  This experience will be invaluable to the Ionian Sea Rainfall Experiment.
