VRA Pacific Rim Chapter

Annual Meeting, 2007

The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA

Washington State Archives Tour

WA State Archives in Olympia

The Chapter is checked in by security
Dave Hastings, State Records Archivist, (left) leads the tour Special wall-mounted scanner for large-scale items
Blueprints from the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge ("Galloping Gertie") are being scanned They are too delicate to circulate in their original form (The infamous Galloping Gertie collapsed in 1940)
The scanning is controlled from the computer across the room. The Archives building has three floors underground.... and all the floors are chock full of stuff as you can imagine.
Interesting shelving for large ledgers Very cold temperatures are maintained

We were all amused (and somewhat alarmed) by a sign posted in the window of a vehicle that parked next to the van Jane drove to take us to the Archives:

Luckily, we survived the encounter and there were no international incidents
