Research focus: molecular systematics of the Verbenaceae.
Comprised of approximately 34 genera and 1200 species, Verbenaceae remains one of the last families within the Lamiales to be investigated phylogenetically. Due to the wide variety of morphological characters and geographic distribution, traditional classifications have been poorly defined.

I am in the process of including samples for a few more informative genera to the chloroplast data set. When this is complete, I will begin to sequence nuclear gene regions for greater resolution of relationships.
