Date: Thu, 13 Nov 1997 16:44:05 +0100 From: mike Subject: USPF and USAPL and the IPF (and Ed Coan too!) to all! It is now official, the IPF voted on whether to retain the USPF, following my motion to expel them. The congress listened to a lot of arguments, from myself, Dan Wagman, John Moody, Heinx Veirthaler, Graham Fong, Arnold Bostrom, Dave Jeffrey, Jan Shendow, Robert Keller, Mike Overdeer and Andrea Sortwell, then voted to expel the USPF by a vote of 24 - 8. We then voted unanimously to give full affiliation to USAPL, following a presentation by Mike O and Andrea S. Also, Ed Coan's appeal was listened to, then rejected, by the same vote, 24 - 8. So Ed is out, and the USPF are out, and USAPL are in. Mike Armstrong mike@ipf.com Date: Fri, 14 Nov 1997 10:27:42 -0500 From: Namgawd@AOL.COM Subject: USPF is history! I just got back from Prague and the IPF World Congress. Man, what a day that was (Wednesday). First the Ed Coan appeal. Bottom line, his appeal was denied and Eddy is done in the IPF for life. He brought a lawyer over who pointed out all of these little technical errors that may have occurred, but at no point did he provide any evidence that Eddy's sample was tampered with or that Ed was clean at the time. He also didn't address some of the finer, yet extremely important biochemical aspects, such as why all of the data from the analysis were in agreement with each other. If Ed decides to take this even further, this last point will no doubt be addressed and he'll lose again. Now to the USPF. I requested permission to address Congress regarding the persistent violations of the law (by-laws, State & Federal law) on the part of the organization, how the membership is not being served and how the leadership has violated several aspects of the IPF Constitution. Once I got there, I learned that I had only 5 min. to address Congress. Man, how can you convince a group of people, many of which don't speak much English, about the highly complex issues regarding breaking the law and the impact that it has on the U.S. members and the IPF? Heck, many of the list members here know quite a bit about what has transpired, yet fail to understand. Well, no doubt, I was quite anxious about what angle to take. But it all worked out to our benefit in the end. Here's a brief synopsis. 1. Mike Armstrong (Canada) addressed the longstanding problems the IPF has had with the USPF. He then addressed a rumor that indicated that Dave Jeffrey (DJ), USPF President, was convicted of drug related offenses. 2. DJ flat out denied that he had any trouble with the law, ever. 3. Grahame Fong, IPF President, brought out a copy of court papers from W.V. where DJ plead guilty to 8 felony charges stemming from steroid traffiking. 4. DJ was indeed found guilty and was convicted. 5. He clearly lied to the delegates about an issue that is extrememly important to the sport of PL. Moreover, steroid traffiking is an issue discussed in the IPF Constitution and is reason for expulsion. 6. DJ claimed that the government set him up and that all he did is bring B-12 derivatives in to the U.S. 7. Grahame Fong read off the list of substances seized by the Feds which included 10's of thousands of tablets and vials of many kinds of anabolic androgenic steroids (I obtained a copy of the report, if you care to know exactly what it was and the quantity, let me know and I'll post it). 8. DJ was exposed as a complete liar and idiot, where he now claimed that this had no relevance to the IPF and USPF. Many of the delegates addressed this obviously false logic and DJ just continued to talk himself into the corner. It was almost comical. 9. I was up next. Basically I outlined how the USPF is a lawless organization that has violated their laws and State and Federal laws. As such, in accordance to the IPF Constitution, they must be expelled. I also addressed that DJ's resignation, which he just offered, didn't change anything about the USPF's corrupt actions. 10. DJ and the Treasurer/Secretary, Jan Shendow, couldn't provide any evidence to the contrary. Instead they confused the issue and brought up other irrelevant issues. 11. I learned that I could address Congress several more times. All I had to do is raise my hand and I was given 5 min. to speak. I did on about 3 more occasions where I simply brought the issue back to the incompetent and corrupt leadership of the USPF. 12. Robert Keller (EC member) got really upset, kept raising his voice and got himself kicked out of the meeting. 13. When it came to the vote, the USPF lost 24 countries to 8. 14. USA PL (former ADFPA) had a chance to address Congress about their program and what a class act they were. They were so professional, had professionally done overheads and totally amazed the delegates. The U.S. actually looked good for a change. 15. Not surprisingly, they got accepted as the new IPF affiliate by a vote of - you guessed it, 24 to 8. And that's it in a brief mention. Naturally, there was much more, but it really doesn't matter. Here's one more interesting tidbit, though. I had to leave the hotel at 5am to catch my plane. I saw DJ and Dave Kyle (another illegally appointed USPF EC member) leave the hotel with their bags. One of the guys that worked for the meet director cought up to me and told me that these guys didn't pay their bill. I asked him why he let them leave, but this guy was just a skinny little 17/18 year old who didn't feel up to the task. I told him to call the cops, but he didn't feel like it. I told him who the guys were and also told him to let Fong know. I'm sure Fong will hold the USPF accountable and maybe these two did arrange for someone else to pay their bill. Why they wouldn't do so BEFORE they left... You know my thoughts, dirt bags to the end. No two ways about it. There's a new era of PL in the U.S. USA PL nationals will be in Denver in June and I expect it to be a grand event. Consider that the best USPF lifters will be there, too. Finally a meet that actually resembles a true national meet with the best lifters of two organizations trying to earn a berth to the IPF worlds. See you there. Dan Wagman
