Nisqually Chutes Ski - 4 / 28 / 02

Andrew, Phil and I set out on a lazy day ski tour. The chutes are a nice corn ski in stable conditions. Hike from Paradise to above Panorama Point. The top of the chutes are the last obvious dropoff to the climbers left of the Muir snowfield. At the bottom you will be on the Nisqually Glacier so watch out for crevasses.

The beaten path above Paradise.

Entering the top of the chute.

Some nice corn.

Andrew and Phil waiting for me below. The Nisqually moraine is nicely visible paralleling the left slope.

Skiing out to the bridge. The road is visible in the distant right. Stay on the skier's left of the stream and ski up to the road from there. Rocks like to roll down from the left.

I stood at the parking lot west of the bridge with my thumb out for about fifteen minutes. Twenty car loads of tourons drove past but the first climber bumbs in a pickup gave me a ride back to Paradise. Your results may vary.
