Sorry folks, there's a lot of powder poachers out there and I just don't think it would be fair to my partners in crime to divulge the location of this find. Let it suffice to say we found some very nice slopes and had the mountain to ourselves. If you're at all familiar with the Cascades you should be able to figure the location out from the pictures.
We conspired to meet Maya, Zach and Ed on the mountain. They wanted
to get an earlier start so Matt, Phil and I followed their tracks up from
the road.
Maya, Zach and Ed
Frost
Phil on the south face.
Meeting Maya, Zach and Ed near the top, we decided to ski the south
face because it was warming up and we figured we'd do a run while the snow
was still good.
Plunging down the north face.
We skinned back up and continued up to the ridge to do a little exploring.
The north face was open glades. Like the south face, the skiing was
great. We continued down until cliffbands stopped us. There
was a super narrow chute but we decided the climb back up wasn't worth
it. Would have been good training though.
Zach wishing they made snowshoes for dogs (or
even better - skis!)
Hint: If you live in Seattle and you climb
you've probably been to the top of at least one of the peaks in the distance.
Interesting angle on the peak in the middle -
looks skiable too.
Phil in a winter wonderland.
This would probably be your biggest hint right
here if you look closely.
Our tracks on the south slope.
Skiing back down the south face was the most amazing skiing of the day.
A solid rain crust was covered with about eight inches of fresh soft snow.
The buried crust kept you from sinking and kept your speed up, but the
snow on top made it a total joy.
