I was actually in the army once, a few years ago. I was sent to South Korea for a year. I was stationed at a tiny base along the DMZ (the border with north Korea). The base was so small to do our two mile run we ran around the base three and a half times. It was surrounded by rice paddies and pig farms. On my days off I would ride around the surrounding hills on my mountain bike.
Recently while packing and unpacking boxes to change apartments I stumbled
across an undeveloped roll of film with Hongul characters on it and had
it developed. As predicted it turned out to be from my year in Korea.
Looking north across a river. The other side of this river is
covered with minefields.
The barely visible hilltops in the distance are actually in North Korea.
Tanks. Note the red and white cavalry flag. Cav tankers
are cooler than regular tankers, but they're still tankers.
This was taken at a small shrine along side a trail leading up to the
ruins of an ancient fortified city near Seoul.
At the same shrine.
