Vasiliki Ridge / Wine Spires
7/13/02 - 7/14/02
Dan Goering and I camped at the Blue Lake trailhead and then headed up to
Burgundy col in the morning. We found a climbers trail that was easy
to follow and ascended the loose rock and dirt from there. Arriving at what we assumed
was the col, we pitched the tent and headed up to climb Burgundy Tower. We
scrambling up what we thought was the approach to the climb only to realize
that we had gotten to the top of Vasiliki Tower instead and were now looking
down at the real Burgundy col. Given the time and complications, we
decided to save Burgundy for the next day and head back and explore Vasiliki
Ridge instead.
Liberty Bell as seen through a hole in Vasiliki Tower.

On top of the Acropolis with the rest of Vasiliki Ridge in the background.
Another view of Liberty Bell, with Glacier Peak in the distant left.
The next day neither Dan nor I really felt up to Burgundy so we decided to
play on something easier. Chablis Tower looked like a nice option.

Sitting on top. The weather was fabulous.
Looking north at Pernod.
Rapping down Chablis was at least as interesting as the climb up. Getting
back down on the snow we considered a jaunt over to Silverstar but that would
mean getting back fairly late.
Another Greg's webpage trick tip: How to collect water dripping down
a rock - press the edge of a ziplock back against the rock and create a stream
by lifting up one edge. Mmmmmmmm - water; wine to the thirsty.
