Bagely Icefield, Alaska
June 14th - July 3rd, 2001

I don't want to try to fit three weeks of climbing and skiing in Alsaka into trip report. I've decided instead to throw up a few pictures as snapshots of the experience. Here are two websites that do a much better job of detailing the expedition:

Alpine Dave

Mountain Phil

Here then are a few of my pictures. I hope you enjoy. - Chosspile Greg

Marcus and Phil enjoying a game of croquet at the bush pilot's lodge while swarms of mosquitoes enjoy Marcus and Phil.

Getting dumped on the Baldwin Glacier with way too much gear.

Base Camp and its ethereal view.

Our first climb. We called it Hudson Peak.

Topping out on Hudson.

Me on top of Hudson. St. Elias pokes above the clouds in the distance.

Marcus and Dave doing an ice climb right next to camp.

Some grizzly bear tracks. This was quite surprising since the Icefield is a barren wasteland. I developed a theory that bears must migrate from the warmer coast to summer feeding grounds, but our pilot Paul Claus said he sees them wander onto the icefield and get lost and die.

Phil making a fasion statement.

Skinning up on approach to a mountain we called Threeface.
