Multicultural, by our example, has taken the place of African American...which has in turn taken the place of entertainment. The development has further broadened our reach and also the diversity of the publication. We seek not to be a segmented institution, but a focused one. Focused on growth, understanding and awareness between the different cultures and that of outside cultures. By our mission, we don't feel that The SuperStar will be the sole entity to resolve the differences between the races, but to spread awareness in whatever capacity while also learning and nourishing a people that have long been kept down and out.

The Mercury News published a three-part series in late August that detailed how a San Francisco Bay Area drug ring sold tons of cocaine to the street gangs of South-Central Los Angeles in the 1980s, sending some of the millions in profits to the Contras, a Latin American guerrilla army run by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. The series never reported direct CIA involvement, although many readers drew that conclusion. The series has reverberated on radio talk shows and online forums while creating a firestorm of controversy in journalism circles. Three separate investigations into the series' findings are currently underway in Washington, D.C. and the Mercury News continues to cover the story.
