Photos of Gears and Bearings and Shaft Parts

The left photo above is of the gear set I plan to use and the right photo above shows the full bearing set and the gears for one unit. As you can see, this is going to be quite a little chunk of steel. I'm not at a point where I'm trying to reduce weight yet. I just hope this weighs less than I do when I'm finished.

These are the axles and planet cages. They were machined from 3" 1018 steel round stock. Lots of chips. One of the suncases is in the foreground. This is part 1 on drawing 2.

These are the suncase bearing cages. The one on the right has the large bearing that will press into the right hub half which will be 6061 T6 aluminum. This is part 2 on drawing 2. The modified gear is part 3 on drawing 3.

Here is a handful of modified planet gears. They look like little snacks you can just pop into your mouth. These will run on 440 SS shafts and will have bronze washers front and back as thrust running surfaces. The planet gear is part 2 on drawing 3.

Here is an assembly of one of the axles with the suncase. There are snap rings on one side of the axle and a crank bolt. The suncase bearing is only partly pressed in here. Two snap rings for retaining the axle bearing are shown as well as one of the crank bolts.

This is an assembly with the suncase bearings fully inserted and the two axle bearings in place. The right bearing is only partially pressed in here.

Another view of the assembly with a nice shot of one of the crank tapers. Perhaps you can see where the shafts will be pressed to carry the planet gears.
