10 Adivices for Saving Money
When Going to the Supermarket
A long time ago and for a long time, Brazilians had to deal with high inflation to save money. Some people adopted economists' advices before going shopping in the supermarkets. Those are the ones:
1) You should always make a list of which articles you need to restore your household stock. The list should contain the description and the exact quantity of each item;
2) If you can, go shopping in work days. There is lower demand and you may find a more variety of articles and brands. On weekends, more people are doing it. On Fridays and because the managers know more people will come on Saturday, they use to update the prices;
3) Never go hungry to the supermarket. It will stimulate you to buy more or buy stuff you do not need. Go doing it immediately after a good breakfast, lunch or dinner;
4) Avoid to take your children with you when shopping. If you can leave them with somebody else, do it. Children watch TV and they are pontential consumers;
5) Use to go shopping in more than one store. This way you can evaluate the pricing procedures of each one. The fact of some stores are located in poorer areas, does not mean they offer lower prices;
6) Some stores use to change the layout and the merchandize among the shelves, enforcing you to walk more around the store and implicitly suggesting you to buy more;
7) Try new brands when possible and if they offer lower prices;
8) Vary equivalent products with the same price minimizing the demand for the more demanded ones;
9) Be careful with big stocks at home. When you do that, you generate more demand and maybe more inflaction;
10) Ask to your partner to go alone to supermarket. The partner should be the one that most control the buying impulses.
