Extended Faculty, iSchool
I'm a Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researcher and I'm pursuing a Ph.D. through the Department of Technical Communication (UWTC), College of Engineering, at the University of Washington.
Currently, I’m working with other members of UWTC on empirically validating UI/Web design guidelines, measuring the accuracy and validity of laboratory usability methods, and creating tools and methods for running remote studies through the Internet that access Web site users’ behavior and perceptions. I am about to embark on a study on wikis.
I work as the Assistant Director of the Laboratory for Usability Testing and Evaluation (LUTE), and I lecture in Technical Communication and for UW's iSchool.
Background: I have an M.S. in Computer Science & Engineering, where I specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. While working on my Computer Science degree, I completed an additional concentration sequence in Cognitive Science. My undergrad degrees are in Computer Science & in Cultural Anthropology. I've also studied Art/Graphic Design, New Media Theory, and the intersection of the two. Perviously, I worked as a software designer/developer for scientific applications, science education software, and autonomous agent/robot control architectures.
Research Interests: Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Testing and Evaluation Methods, Cognitive Theories of Web Navigation, Informational Website Design, Information & Interaction Design, Computer Mediated Communication / Computer Supported Collaborative Work, Design Process Communication, Design Education.
