There is a lot more to upgrading to UDMA(66) than having a capable hard drive and the necessary protocols, especially with notebook computers. Other issues have to be considered; like the impact of additional heat on other components, the effect the upgrade will have on available battery life, and to what degree the induced current from the newer technology will cause data corruption in the closely packed environment of a notebook. All such factors would have to be overcome before Acer would go to the UDMA(66) technology on any model. At this time, the Travelmate 600 series is not designed to allow an upgrade to UDMA(66). Thank you for choosing Acer for your computing needs. We realise you have a choice of several computing companies and we appreciate the opportunity to serve you. The disk, an IBM TravelMate 12GN, is apparently capable of UDMA(66). This is according to ACER specs, as well as the IBM web site. Can the TravelMate be configured to use UDMA(66)? There seems to be some confusion about this - the product is advertised as only UDMA(33) capable...UDMA(66) would be nice, but I don't want to damage the notebook!!! Thx, B.D.
