Single Sided Deafness - Hearing Aids

Personally, I find the thought of a hearing aid, of the sorts I've seen described, to give me the willies. I have never been able to hear in my left ear, so I doubt my brain could process binaural information, even if there were a miraculous operation that could restore complete hearing to me. The hearing aids for monaural people generally aim to move the sound from the deaf side over to the hearing side - one still hears in mono, but the sound can originate from both sides of the head. The advantages are that one no longer has a completely deaf side, so one avoids such situations as being unaware that people have "sneeked up" on one's deaf side, or not hearing oncoming traffic from that side. I don't believe such hearing aids are for me, but I include a bit of discussion here (mostly to keep educating myself).
