Pay dates
First segment of FRENCH or ITAL 134 or 5-credit A term course: 100% July 11, July 25
Second segment of FRENCH or ITAL 134: 100% July 25, August 10
Third segment of FRENCH or ITAL 134 or 5-credit B term course: 100% August 10, August 25
5-credit full-term course: 50% July 11, July 25, August 10, August 25
Only two months (nine weeks): Pay per month is higher.
For Teaching Associates and Lecturers two 5-credit courses are a full load: one 5-credit course in one term pays one month at 100%.
TAs, who work less than three months in summer, receive a 20% summer supplement.
Course registration requirement
Graduate students who wish to TA in French or Italian in the summer must take one course that will satisfy a requirement for their program of study and advance their progress toward their degree. This course must at least meet the two credit minimum registration requirement listed on the Graduate School webpage on TA/RA salary schedules. FICA and Medicare taxes may be triggered by taking fewer than five credits or working more than half-time (see FICA chart on UW Tax Office website).
Insurance
For Academic Student Employees, the GAIP Summer Quarter Coverage page as of 9/15/2014 said, "If you had UW-paid GAIP coverage for fall, winter, and spring quarters, you are eligible for UW-paid GAIP coverage for summer quarter, regardless of student and/or employment status." The GAIP Summmer Coverage page also said, "If you held a UW-paid GAIP-eligible appointment in spring, you can continue your GAIP coverage on a self-pay basis returning the self-pay packet sent by LifeWise in July."
