Threats/risks to web servers
- Denial of Service (DoS) attacks
- Crashing server (e.g., Apple Web Sharing)
- Using up all CPU cycles, memory, disc space, network sockets
- Deleting files
- Theft / Alteration / Deletion of data
- Masquerading (stealing your IP address or domain name)
- Hack server (or server's account), then hack root to
take control of system
- Hack another service or open/stolen account to get
root, then attack web server
