Initially our focus is on producing a reference set of hacked system images that will be used to seed a database of such images being built by pnw-honeynet members who are part of an ongoing graduate software development project in Seattle University's Computer Science and Software Engineering Department. We will gather the reference compromised system images using a distributed network of honeynets created using the Honeynet Project's GenII "honeywall" bootable CD-ROM technology. (This is a draft Honeynet Hardware Specification and Network Design Guide for setting up honeynet systems.)
The intent of the database is to use it (and support programs being written by others) to facilitate computer forensic courses lab exercises. This will be in support of a pending NSF CCLI grant proposal involving Seattle University, Highline Community College, and the University of Washington.
