Paper 2

The paper 2 assignment can be accessed by clicking the "Assignments and Materials" link above.

Writing Centers!

No matter what one's writing level is, having another set of eyes read and respond to your paper is valuable. A visit to one of our campus writing centers is a great investment of time. Here are two: the English Writing Center (Make your appointment online!) and the CLUE writing center (late drop-in hours!).

Help using MLA style for paper #1 and Paper #2

MLA is the style most often used in English courses, and it is common in other humanities classes. Here are two sources to make it easy for you to use MLA style in your paper.
  1. For a quick reference to formatting your Works Cited page, consult the MLA Guide Handout provided by UW Libraries (you can also pick up a copy at the reference desk in Suzzalo library).
  2. Purdue's OWL (Online Writing Lab) has a very user-friendly MLA tutorial, with lots of examples and visual aids. See the links at the bottom of the page for such things as in-text citations. Click Here for the OWL's MLA guide.

Integrating Quotations

The Writing Center at the University of Viriginia provides a source for understanding how to integrate quotations into your sentences' syntax, with examples.

UW Libraries's English Subject Research Page

The UW Libraries English Subject Page provides links to several useful online resources, such as the Literature Resource Center. Note that since these resources are subscription based, you have to use the "off campus login" button to access them if you are connecting off campus.

Optional Reserve Readings

Some but not all of the reserve materials have made it to the shelf in Odegaard Library. Search for "Griesbach" at the Course Reserves page of UW Libraries to access the list of reserves. The complete list is on the Syllabus.

Oxford English Dictionary

The fiction handout uses etymology and historical definitions of the word "fiction" from the Oxford English Dictionary. You can access the OED online through the UW libraries webpage. It is located on the Reference Tools page. If you're accessing the libraries webpage from off campus, be sure first to click the "Off Campus Access" button to log in with your UWNetID.
