PHYSICS 428/576, Winter 2009
Special Topics: Seminar in NanoEthics

Course Assignments

Assignments

The class will work in small groups to develop a case study on any aspect of ethics and nanotechnology that they choose.

Expectations regarding the case study will be discussed in depth in class.

Case studies will be published online through a National Science Foundation supported website.

Group members will be invited to present their work at the First Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Nanotechnology and Emerging Technologies to be held in September 2009 in Seattle, WA.

Examples of Case Studies

The Center for Nanotechnology in Society at the University of Arizona has developed six case studies called "Nano Futures" to stimulate discussion about social and ethical implications of nanotechnologies. See http://cns.asu.edu/nanofutures/ to read the scenarios, comment on them, or revise them.

These cases studies can be used as a model for the final project that your group develops for PHYSICS 428/576.
