We didn't really like...
Our first agent
We started off with another agent who shall remain nameless,
but QUICKLY became dissatisfied with him. Agent #1 did not
provide the legal disclosure form right off the bat, appeared to look
ONLY at the higher end listings in our price range (a couple we
would have wanted to look at were sold by the time we knew about
them), and we never felt that our business (as low-end buyers) was
important to Agent #1. When Mary asked him about the disclosure
form, he said something to the effect of, "Well, I don't really
bother with that. If you're worried about it, I'd be happy to
sit down and talk with your husband about it..."
Our sellers agent
Again, I won't mention names, though there is a web page I
could link to. Since we also had problems with the
sellers though, and don't know who deserves more of the
appropriate blame, we'll be nice. Again, the sellers agent
was representing the sellers, so by nature that's going to
put us at odds with him a little bit. Still, the ads and
the listing for the house were more than a little bit
misleading.
The sellers
I don't want to say too much bad about the sellers either.
We didn't have any real big huge problems or nightmare stories
like you sometimes hear about. Still, there were some problems,
especially in the transition of possession. One of the provisions
in the purchase agreement is that junk/garbage needed to be cleared
away from the property at seller expense. They got a big dumpster
put in which we had to move in around. They weren't done until
Monday or Tuesday (close was Thursday and we started moving actual
stuff on Friday) AFTER close. And they kept keys to the
house and were obviously giving themselves access on Thursday-Saturday
(we got the locks changed very quickly). They also claimed they didn't
know anything about removal of the brush/tree debris in the backyard
(you can see it in the picture) so we'll have to take care of
that ourselves. The attic is still full of junk too, which we'll
get to eventually. Again, there was a bit of a language barrier
and the selling agent sure didn't give them much notice and may
not have been clear on what all needed doing.
