Here there are directions on how to upgrade a version of Pine.

 - Upgrade progresively. This means every version update the patch. In
   this form upgrading at the end is not a big pain.

 - When integrating patches, first apply the "outgoing" patch, then the
   "incoming" patch. The failure is minimal.

 - When I applied all these patches, in this order, failure was minimal in
   the sense that the amount of hunks that failed was minimal. (patches
   marked with a * failed to patch correctly)
