Other Microsoft Tools and Resources:

Surround Video:
Surround Video is an unreleased technology that allows Windows-based CD-ROM users to interact with live-action characters and high-resolution photographic images that can be panned 360 degrees. A Surround Video experience consists of a sequence of seamless 360 degree photographic, full screen images linked together to form a backdrop within which the user may navigate. Video for Windows movies can be matted into the background, enhancing the realism of the experience.

To receive an overview on this technology along with system requirements, send mail to surround@microsoft.com, or fax a request to (206) 936-7329, attn: Surround Video, Bldg. 6.

WinToon: Microsoft's amazing animation engine

WinToon is a set of Video for Windows extensions that can chroma key (also known as blue screening) the foreground frames from a movie with an arbitrary background image. Also, to make full-screen cartoons possible, WinToon tracks the dirty rectangles of each frame and updates the screen much more efficiently than traditional video. Audio sync is handled automatically by Video for Windows. The WinToon kit includes the ScanAVI utility, a movie preparation tool, as well as a Video for Windows draw handler and stream handler for run-time playback.

WinToon is provided on the Multimedia Jumpstart CD-ROM. You can also pick up WinToon and WinG (Microsoft's Gaming environment) on CompuServe in the Windows Multimedia forum (GO WINMM), and on the Internet via FTP: ftp://ftp.microsoft.com:developr/drg/multimedia/wintoon

MSDN (Microsoft's Developer Network) Level II is a quarterly CD-ROM resource that will keep you up to date with all the latest and essential tools, SDKs and DDKs, operating systems, articles, whitepapers, etc. to facilitate application development on MS platforms (including multimedia development). It's easy to join, and is highly recommended for developers of all levels. Please call the Developer Network service center at (800) 759-5474. In Europe, call +31 10 258 88 64. Outside the U.S., Europe, and Canada, call your local Microsoft subsidiary or (303) 684-0914 for local contact information.
