Computational Methods for Linguists is an overview of methods for working with linguistic data in electronic form: electronic corpora, linguistic software tools, textual data formats, operating system fundamentals, and basic programming. It is intended for linguists without a programming background who want to learn how to use computers to enhance their research.

Watch the class message board for reading and homework assignments.

Grades are calculated from the following factors:

  • Weekly assignments (90%)...Linguistic and programming problem sets due every Wednesday at 11:00 p.m.
  • Class participation (10%)...Programming is inherently collaborative, so be prepared to discuss your work in class.

Late homeworks will have a penalty of 2% of the total grade for every hour past the assignment due date.
