Japanese Language Printing from Homer
This document is meant to serve as an example of what is needed to
enable Japanese Language printing from the Homer cluster.
The system involved was a 3rd-party system, with Twinbridge Japanese
Partner loaded as the Japanese language input method, using the EWAN
keyboard program distributed by C&C, and using Pine 3.95.
The user had configured Pine 3.95 to:
- character-set = ISO-2022-JP
- display-filters = "" /rcXX/dXX/username/nkf -e
- sending-filters = /rcXX/dXX/username/nkf
Twinbridge Japanese Partner was configured to:
The user was attempting to print to an attached dot matrix printer.
A lot of trial and error was involved:
- changing configurations back and forth in Twinbridge Japanese
Partner
- Pine setup configurations
- printer setup configurations
- trying to print the message each time a configuration change was
made
- finally, the message to be printed had to be exported, and
directly invoked by ansiprt, and that worked
- time involved was four hours of on-site work
The resolution was:
due to a bug in the ansiprt command, the "attached-to-ansi" print
command didn'twork, and sent out garbage to the printer. The bug
occurs only when a user is printing to an attached printer, using
filters for sending and displaying.
To resolve the problem, a change had to be made to the "Configure
Printer" command in Pine 3.95 to:
- "personally selected print command" to "pc printer using ansiprt
program".
The Pine Team will be fixing the ansiprt command now that they have
been made aware of it.
