Chinese Language Support, Basics: 101
The basic needs for sending Chinese Language Email are:
- An account on a UCS Galaxy Machine. We recommend Saul08.
- A Chinese language input system for your pc
- A communications package that understands how to send and receive
2-bit (or 2-octet) character encoding
- A sending and display filter for Unix Pine for Chinese character
encoding
- Pine must be configured to display and send Chinese character
encoding
Chinese Language Input Systems for Your PC
We know of two Chinese Language Input Systems for PC's
Twinbridge for Chinese Partners:
- Costs about $200
- Makes a PC Chinese Language Capable
- Works with Windows so a document can be created using your
own word processing package on your own pc using Chinese
characters or Chinese romanization for input
RichWin
- available via ftp:

- must be ftp-ed, tar xf, built, made before running
Chinese Language Input Systems for Your Mac
We know of only one Chinese Language Input Systems for Macintosh.
- Chinese Language Kit
- Available at authorized Macintosh dealerships
- Costs approximately $200
Chinese Language Sending and Display Filters
We recommend ncf.
- The source code is publicly available via ftp from
ftp.net.tsinhua.edu.cn/pub/Chinese/ncf/ncf105b.tar.gz
- After ftping the source code, it must be made and built on Saul08
to be available in your home directory to use

Unix Pine Configuration Changes
In order to use ncf, your pine configuratin must be changed to reflect
these changes:
- character-set = ISO-2022-CN or
