About me...
I am finishing up my PhD in Biomedical and Health Informatics at the University of Washington. My advisor is Wanda Pratt . I am a member of the iMed research group.
In my dissertation, I am investigating expertise sharing among patients for solving problems that arise in their health situations. My research focuses on the rich context of breast cancer, where integrating and making sense of a broad range of often complex and unfamiliar personal health information can be challenging. People who have experienced breast cancer can offer other patients a unique and valuable form of expertise (i.e., “patient expertise”). Patient expertise is shared through the advice and tips patients offer one another to deal with day-to-day problems that arise during the breast cancer experience. My goals are to (1) deepen our understanding of the characteristics of patient expertise, (2) understand the practices patients use to exchange their experise, and (3) use this knowledge to facilitate patient expertise sharing through health informatics support.
