Most of my work in LIS is in knowledge organization, and my expertise is in descriptive cataloging, use of online catalogs, and classification theory.

One of my papers, "Fulfilling the Second Objective in the Online Catalog:  Schemes for Organizing Author and Work Records Into Usable Displays" won the 1998 Jesse H. Shera Award for Distinguished Published Research given by the Library Research Round Table of the American Library Association.  I am also the recipient of the 2000 OCLC/ALISE Research Paper Award for "Developing Organized Information Displays for Voluminous Works: A Study of User Clustering Behavior" and the 2018 ALISE/Bohdan S.
